There’s a great article on bourbon in this month’s Seasons Magazine from Hy-Vee. They have some good drink recipes in there and they also pair the drinks with savory bites from Hy-Vee. Two drinks in particular caught my eye. The first is the Apple-Cider Bourbon because they paired it with Crav’n breaded pickles. It’s not a complicated drink to make. Add 2 ounces Maker’s Mark, 3 ounces apple cider, 1/2 ounce lemon juice, 1/2 ounce simple syrup and 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard to an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Cover and shake until well combined and chilled. Strain into an ice-filled glass and garnish with a slice of granny smith apple and a sprig of thyme, The second is the Peach Old Fashioned because I just love an Old Fashioned, although usually I go for the Wisconsin style Brandy Old Fashioned. This one is also easy to make. Add 3 ounces Elijah Craig bourbon, 1 ounce peach liqueur, 1 ounce simple syrup and 2 dashes orange bitters to and ice-filled cocktail shaker. Cover and shake until well combined and chilled. Garnish with a peach slice and and orange peel and serve with Crav’n cream cheese stuffed jalapeno poppers and peach-mango habanero jam.
